Lori + Kevin | Northern Virginia Engagement Photography

Lori and I met back in 8th grade P.E. class and have been close friends ever since. We have gone through everything together including lacrosse practices, boyfriends, break-ups, high school parties, college parties, girls nights, beach trips, weddings, etc. I’m honored to call her a friend and even more excited to get out today and take some engagement photos of her and Kevin.

It goes without saying that they are so in love and I hope I was able to capture that today. Here are a few of many favorites.

Lori is absolutely gorgeous it was easy taking photos of her. Oh and Kevin isn’t too shabby himself.;-)

The rock.

I think we spent half of the time laughing, this was one of those moments.

Congratulations guys, I can’t wait for the wedding!

“The Greatest Show on Earth” | Northern Virginia Child Photographer

What a week it’s been! For Easter last Sunday my Mom (Carter’s Mimi) surprised him and all of his cousins with tickets to the circus that’s in town this week at The Patriot Center. I was a little leery since the show started at Carter’s bed time but figured he’d probably like it. Oh did he like it, I’ve never seen my child so excited and amazed all at once. His little eyes were as big as saucers and mouth was agape the entire time.

Mimi completely hooked up and got us the “circus celebrity” tickets which meant we sat in the very front row and were also brought out into the ring and driven around in a crazy train. I’m also psyched that I ended up bringing the 5D and my 24-70 2.8L, worked perfect for this occasion and I got some awesome shots.
Here are a few, they are a bit grainy since they were shot in the dark at high ISO’s but I still love them.

Carter and his best bud and cousin, Jack enjoying the show.

A performer, I love this shot.

And here’s the “train” that we rode around the floor of the circus on. Super cool experience.

While we were on the floor they did motorcyclists in the metal ball showcase. This was going on right in front of us, SO amazing. I was worried the loudness would freak Carter out but he loved it.

The elephants were mine and Jacks favorite part of the show. SO cute!

How they train the elephants to do these tricks amazes me.

And of course I need to share a couple shots from Easter last weekend since Carter was looking extra handsome.:-)

His Easter Basket… err, Bucket.

My little stinker.

Hope you all had a wonderful week. Stay tuned for an extra awesome weekend of sessions to come tomorrow and Sunday to this very blog.:-)

Location, Location, Location! | Northern Virginia Child Photographer

Today’s weather has me bitten by the Spring Fever bug and I can’t wait for all of my upcoming sessions this Spring and Summer. I get asked a lot where we should have our photo session so I figured I’d make a blog post about it to help my amazing clients out with these very important decisions.:-)

Here are some of my favorite places to shoot…

I find that babies and young children (especially those going through the separation anxiety stage) do much better in their own environment. I’ve become and expert in “finding the light” so even if you think your house is a dark dungeon, I can almost guarantee we can get some amazing portraits inside.

Plus, I’m a HUGE fan of getting shots of your baby/child in their rooms. I’ll be the first to admit that we went hog wild decorating my son’s nursery to the point where it looks like it could be in the Pottery Barn Kid’s catalog. Now’s your chance to show off all of that hard work that went into planning and decorating your child’s room.

This Mom was super talented and painted this mural herself, I adore the bright green with the contrast of the black chalkboard paint:

Everyone always asks if this is a green backdrop and it’s not! It’s the wall in her very own room!

Another room with an awesome color palate:

I also love to use the parents bed for some shots, especially family shots.

And who can resist a family portrait like this?

Now’s your chance to show off all of the hard work you’ve put into your landscaping and your lush green grass! Any sort of colors in the back yard make for amazing photos. I’m a short shooter, meaning I love to shoot wide open so that the subject pops out at you and the background is blurry and beautiful so even if your yard isn’t gorgeous, I can make it look like it is!

Old Town Alexandria, Downtown DC, Downtown Old Town Leesburg, Downtown Old Town Warrenton… The possibilities are endless! The DC Area is rich in history and our nearby “Old Towns” are a photographers dream!

Old Town Alexandria not only has waterfront areas but amazing colored doors throughout:

A waterfront park in Old Town Alexandria:

Old Town Leesburg is beautiful, you can even put a naked baby in a tub in the middle of a park downtown!

Urban Baby.

A park in Georgetown:

My two favorite locations have to be Brookside Gardens in Maryland and Meadowlark Gardens in Vienna. These both have amazing flowers, lush greenery, bridges, ponds, gazebos, you name it!

Brookside has a gorgeous Atrium that’s completely inside.

And then outside:

And Meadowlark is always beautiful, rain or shine!

As you can see the possibilities are endless but no matter where we do your session, I can promise you will have gorgeous portraits you will enjoy for a lifetime.:-)

Happy Monday all!

A Wordy Wednesday

I’m going to do something a little different here and actually post WORDS instead of photos! I might start doing this every Wednesday to give you a peek into what is going on in my life and give you recent Little Moon News. This will be done bullet style since writing is NOT my forte.

* I’m SUPER excited about a new Little Moon Website that will be launched very soon! I’m in LOVE with my new design and can’t wait to show you all!

* I’m also a leetle too excited for my new computer monitor being delivered tomorrow! It’s a 24 inch NEC LCD that is going to make my current 15 inch LG look teeny tiny. I can’t wait!!

* I’ll be going to the dark side soon, I’m finally going to switch to a MAC. I am not going to lie, I’m scared to make the switch but I know it will be worlds better than my current PC.

* My baby boy turned 18 months old last week and is already climbing out of his crib. Being that I’m 5’10” and my husband is 6’4” he’s already a tall kid so he easily scales his baby jail. We’ve outsmarted him at the moment and turned the crib around so the tall side is facing out instead of the wall but it’s only a matter of time before he figures out how to get out. Looks like we’ll be transitioning to a big boy bed sooner than we wanted.

* Someone please tell me that 18 months is a hard age. Gosh I love the little bugger but the tantrums are getting bad and he’s quite a persistent little dude.

* We are leaving for a family trip the the Cayman Islands in a week and a half and Carter has zero summer clothes in his size. Looks like I need to do some shopping!

Alright, I’m off to bed but I HAVE to post at least one photo. This is from my session last weekend and I LOVE it. This little guy’s Mama had the most KICK BUTT collection of shoes. I just love these Stuart Weitzman’s the mostest especially next to adorable, chubby baby feet!

Until next time…

32 Going on 90

It was like 15 degrees when I walked into Walgreen’s this morning to pick up some necessities. As I made my way to the check out counter I noticed the adorable senior citizen in front of me had a Snuggie in her cart and in a cold induced haze I decided I just HAD to have one.

Yes, I realize it’s completely dorky but seriously this thing is pretty comfortable. And just perfect for all of those cold winter nights spent working in front of my computer. Heck, I might even wear it to my next sporting event or to the mall, it’s pretty stylish!

Don’t worry, I won’t show up to my next photo shoot wearing it, it’s not *that* practical.
