Today’s weather has me bitten by the Spring Fever bug and I can’t wait for all of my upcoming sessions this Spring and Summer. I get asked a lot where we should have our photo session so I figured I’d make a blog post about it to help my amazing clients out with these very important decisions.
Here are some of my favorite places to shoot…
1. YOUR HOUSE!
I find that babies and young children (especially those going through the separation anxiety stage) do much better in their own environment. I’ve become and expert in “finding the light” so even if you think your house is a dark dungeon, I can almost guarantee we can get some amazing portraits inside.
Plus, I’m a HUGE fan of getting shots of your baby/child in their rooms. I’ll be the first to admit that we went hog wild decorating my son’s nursery to the point where it looks like it could be in the Pottery Barn Kid’s catalog. Now’s your chance to show off all of that hard work that went into planning and decorating your child’s room.
This Mom was super talented and painted this mural herself, I adore the bright green with the contrast of the black chalkboard paint:

Everyone always asks if this is a green backdrop and it’s not! It’s the wall in her very own room!

Another room with an awesome color palate:

I also love to use the parents bed for some shots, especially family shots.

And who can resist a family portrait like this?

2. YOUR OWN BACKYARD!
Now’s your chance to show off all of the hard work you’ve put into your landscaping and your lush green grass! Any sort of colors in the back yard make for amazing photos. I’m a short shooter, meaning I love to shoot wide open so that the subject pops out at you and the background is blurry and beautiful so even if your yard isn’t gorgeous, I can make it look like it is!

3. GO URBAN!
Old Town Alexandria, Downtown DC, Downtown Old Town Leesburg, Downtown Old Town Warrenton… The possibilities are endless! The DC Area is rich in history and our nearby “Old Towns” are a photographers dream!
Old Town Alexandria not only has waterfront areas but amazing colored doors throughout:

Old Town Leesburg is beautiful, you can even put a naked baby in a tub in the middle of a park downtown!

4. BOTANICAL GARDENS
My two favorite locations have to be Brookside Gardens in Maryland and Meadowlark Gardens in Vienna. These both have amazing flowers, lush greenery, bridges, ponds, gazebos, you name it!
Brookside has a gorgeous Atrium that’s completely inside.

And then outside:

And Meadowlark is always beautiful, rain or shine!

As you can see the possibilities are endless but no matter where we do your session, I can promise you will have gorgeous portraits you will enjoy for a lifetime.
Happy Monday all!
