My Boys | Virginia Newborn & Toddler Photographer

Despite a nasty case of mastitis I was determined to get a few shots of Carter with Reed today, I really wanted at least one good one for the birth announcement. Not sure if I’ve mentioned on here before but taking photos of your own kids (newborn excluded) as a photographer is pretty much mission impossible. Usually Carter won’t even look at the camera when I want him to but today I had a trick up my sleeve that actually worked! I was able to get a bunch of keepers and am SO excited!

Carter at 3 years 2 months and Reed at 17 days old.

I am so proud of my big boy, he has taken to this big brother thing so well! I love seeing him kissing Reed and loving on him.

I am one lucky Mama! :-)

Two Weeks! | Virginia Newborn Photographer

I can’t believe that two weeks has already gone by since my sweet little Reed joined us! I swear it goes by even faster the second time around. We have all been adjusting to our life as family of 4 and Carter is loving his baby brother more and more every day. I’m hoping to finally get a good shot of the two of them together soon, it’s definitely NOT easy when your 3 year old refuses to even look at the camera when his Mama is behind it.

Reed is a great little baby, super laid back and so so snuggly. I am throuroughly enjoying every single second with him and at times wish I could just freeze time and keep him tiny, except at night! He enjoys his marathon nursing sessions and while it’s exhausting on me, it’s so worth it as he gained over a pound in one week and is already well over his birth weight!

Today I snuck in a few quick shots of him while he was conked out in a milk coma. He’s starting to get a little newborn acne and also starting to wake up a bit during the day, this is the exact reason I always tell clients t get their sessions done with me before their newborn hits two weeks!

So in love with him!

He’s such a great little poser.

Happy two weeks little man!!!

Reed – Day 9 | Virginia Newborn Photographer

Today my good friend and fellow photographer Danielle Hobbs came over to play. We had so much fun posing my sleepy little guy and realized how nice it is to have two sets of hands for a newborn session! Maybe we need to team up more often! I’m also so excited that Danielle got some shots of me and Reed, something I know that I will treasure forever. I can’t wait to see what she captured, I’m sure she’ll be sharing them on her blog soon.

I can’t believe how chunky he looks in these photos!

This photo is SO him, his hands are always up by his head which makes swaddling near impossible!

Such a perfect little model. :-)

My sweet little pumpkin.

*Sigh* I just love everything about this little guy, I’m in heaven having a newborn again.

My next goal this weekend is to try and get some sibling shots, wish me luck!

Thank you Danielle!!!!!

Introducing… | Virginia Newborn Photographer

Reed Wilson Scruggs:

Born October 13th 2010 at 2:35 PM weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces and 20 inches long.

He was born at 38 weeks and one day after a super quick and easy delivery. I never thought my heart could love another little human being like I love my first son but as soon as he was placed on my chest it was an instant and deep love. He’s such an awesome and laid back little baby and I finally was able to get 20 minutes with him today to take some real portraits of him. We’ve been dealing with a bit of jaundice and he’s been stuck on the bili lights at home for the past few days but we are on the mend now.

He looks a lot like Carter did when he was a newborn but he also looks SO different! Carter had NO hair and Reed came out with a full head of dark hair.

I could sit and stare at him for hours. I am soaking in every little bit of newborn-ness while I can since I know how fast they change and grow up.

Prepare to be bombarded with photos of him since he’s the easiest subject I have to photograph.

Carter is adjusting pretty well, it might take a little bit longer than I wanted to get the perfect sibling shot but I’m sure I’ll get it. I feel SO incredibly blessed to have these two little boys in my life even if it means getting 3 hours of sleep a night. ;-)

**** Just a quick administrative note, I will be on maternity leave until January unless I decide to open a few dates in December. ****

Happiness | Arlington Virginia Child & Family Photographer

Happiness is having beautiful sisters for your last session before maternity leave. Mom had booked this session probably over a year ago, before I found out I was pregnant. Being that it was booked so far in advance, we had to reschedule due to my due date, then we had to reschedule due to weather.  Today I woke up with my fingers crossed that we’d have a beautiful morning and was not disappointed.

We went to a few different locations in Arlington that I had never been to before which normally would scare me but Mom had scoped both of them out in advance AND sent me photos of each location. Have I said how much I love my clients??

I was so excited to see how much the girls had grown since our last session a year and a half ago! They were so well behaved last year and were even better this year, I swear these girls are just a joy to photograph. I got a LOT of awesome shots but here are a few of my favorites…

Miss E is almost 3 years old and the sweetest thing ever.

And big sis N is now 5 and has the most amazing golden hair!

Mom REALLY wanted to get the perfect family shot for Christmas cards and we definitely got it but I’m not going to share it in case she wants to keep it a secret until the holidays. While this is not your traditional family portrait, I adore it even more knowing that Mom & Dad are celebrating their 10 year Wedding Anniversary soon.

I adore the deep purple sweater with purples, yellows & greens in the background here.

There is nothing better than finishing up your session with a big lollipop, especially when attention spans are fading.

Today’s weather was amazing, we started off the morning with some cooler fall weather in which we took the more fall-like photos and then as the sun came out more it really warmed up nicely which was perfect timing to change into the girls favorite dresses.

I adore this shot, makes me all happy inside. :-)

N family, it was awesome seeing you all again! Thanks for making my last session so fun.
